My practice centres around the notion of the object and the non-object, the physical and the virtual, and all the spaces in between…Where once my role as a sculptor would have been to bring new objects into the world, I now explore what happens when we bring non-objects into the world; or bring objects into the non-world of a virtual space? My most recent work, Being-in-the-Gallery, is a mixed reality immersive experience, combining both virtual reality (using the HTC Vive) and physical sculpture, in an alternative imagining of the Gallery. By generating a disconnect between the sense, and exploring the interface between the virtual and the actual, I seek to challenge the long-held primacy of the visual over touch and mobility in aesthetics.
